We have observed that the topic of "gendering" is often ideologically charged. The discussion is dominated by extreme positions: Some reject gendering completely, others really want to gender everything and anything. With the gender check, we simply want to raise awareness about how we communicate. Because we believe that as communicators, we should above all communicate consciously: Anyone who says "doctors", for example, is not expressing precisely whether he (or she) explicitly means only male doctors or doctors of all genders.

However, it can also arise from the context (but then it should be clear), or in individual cases it may not depend on gender at all. For example, we believe that not only "the doctors" should be recognized for their work during the coronavirus pandemic, but also female doctors and all other medical professionals. And if that's what you mean, you can say so clearly, unambiguously and unequivocally. But if you "get a prescription from the doctor", you can certainly take the view that gender is not important at all. And then gendering can also take a back seat for better readability. Here, too, you can disagree. But that's exactly the point: There is no "right" or "wrong" here. You just make a conscious choice. hn
