Implementing gender-neutral texts
much more easily in everyday life
With SmartGendern, we want to make communication professionals in their daily work completely non-ideologically aware of when they use non-gender-neutral words. Then they can decide: Stick with the generic masculine or adopt one of our suggestions instead with a simple click: The double-entendre, the gender asterisk or the gender colon, a neutral alternative word or a paraphrase. And you can do this either here with the gender tool or fully integrated in Scompler - even in the free ONE version.
The smart gender check
We believe that gendering is not an ideology, but a strategy. And we mean this above all in the context of "corporate communication" and "marketing". That is our field. We don't think it makes sense to insist that the generic masculine always "includes" all other genders. Nor do we think it makes sense to always label everything with a gender asterisk. Then language really does become clumsy. But in many cases, it may well be necessary to address women or non-binary people explicitly. For example, if they are important to you and you want to express this. Of course, everyone is free to not find this important, and these people do not have to use gender.
Gendering is therefore above all an option that enriches our language. It gives us additional opportunities to convey messages. However, in order for us to be able to choose this option in a professional environment, we must first recognize that we are using a non-gender-neutral term. That's what the gender check is for. And we also offer many alternative terms so that you are not always limited to the gender star. But it's also important to us that you can express your respect and recognition of women and non-binary genders without actually gendering everything and anything. We think that's "smart".
SmartGendern is part of all Scompler packages, including the free ONE package. No matter what content you plan or create, be it a press release, tweet, Facebook post or blog post - you will always be notified when your wording is not gender-neutral. And then you can decide how to deal with it.
And this is how the gender check works:
This is the source text.
What do you think? How many non-gender-neutral words does the text contain?
There are 18 of them!
Activate the Smartgender function at the bottom left. And now all non-gender-neutral terms are highlighted.
Alternative proposals
If you then click on a highlighted word, we will suggest alternatives.
Smarter gendering
The word "legal fees" is a good example of how smart gendering works. Gendering is much more than the gender star. There are often smart alternatives that are not at all stilted. We have many such suggestions.
Adopt alternative proposals
And you can then accept these alternatives by clicking on them. This works like a spell checker.
Suggestions adopted
And this is what the revised text looks like.
Why not try it out for yourself
