"Is that true?" - The fact check on gendering
You can read everywhere that a culture war has broken out on the subject of "gendering". And that is true. The discussion is heated, the mood is agitated, the tone is often harsh and the means of debate are often dubious. There is a lot of polemic, a lot of exaggeration, sometimes even outright lies. We have looked at a whole host of arguments and tried to take a differentiated view of them.
A preliminary remark: This "fact check" is not about being right. Or to judge whether a thesis is really "right" or "wrong". We do not believe that there are any clear truths here. We are concerned with something else: we think that we have a conflict of interest when it comes to gendering. And we think that both interests are justified. So we would rather look at whether a thesis is a compelling reason to gender or not to gender. And we believe that there are no compelling reasons for either the one or the other. That's why we advocate that everyone can do it the way they want. And that we respect that mutually.
And what good is that? We have created this fact check with the aim of making the debate more objective. Many of the arguments put forward for and above all against gendering are distorted, sometimes false and very often polemical. Those who follow the arguments exacerbate the conflict. We strive to add a mediating stance to every polarizing thesis. Not because it is the right one. Rather, we want to create mutual acceptance and understanding and contribute to the fact that we talk more with each other than just against each other.
